  3. Welcome to the beta test of CLEARweb from CLEAR Software. Our goal is 
  4. to create the best tool possible for collecting, organizing, and 
  5. publishing Internet addresses. Please take the time to let us know 
  6. what you think of the product. You can contact us by e-mail or through 
  7. our website.

  10. 1. Important note for users of previous beta test versions
  11. ======================================================================
  12. CLEARweb beta 0.5 represents a major overhaul of the product. You
  13. can find the complete list of changes in the help file. One aspect of
  14. these changes is the introduction of a new format for the .CWM map files. 
  15. Map files created in previous versions of CLEARweb cannot be read in 
  16. beta 0.5, and .CWM files from beta 0.5 cannot be used in old versions of 
  17. the CLEARweb Viewer.

  19. As part of the installation process, new .CWM example files will be
  20. placed in the /clearweb/examples directory. Any existing .CWM files
  21. will be moved to a new directory named /clearweb/examples/old. 
  22.  
  23. To rebuild your own .CWM files, you should open the matching .CWO
  24. file and then save it. This will automatically create a new .CWM file.

  27. 2. Downloading the Latest Copy of CLEARweb

  29. The current version of CLEARweb is available for downloading

  39. 3. Installation Instructions
  40. ======================================================================
  41.    CLEARweb requires a PC compatible running Windows 3.x, Windows NT,
  42. or Windows 95. The installed version of the program needs 4 megabytes 
  43. of disk space including examples. CLEARweb works with Netscape 
  44. version 1.1 or greater, although version 2.x is recommended.
  45.  
  46. -  CLEARweb is available for downloading in both 16 bit and 32 bit 
  47. versions. The two versions are named CW16Byy.EXE or CW32Byy, where 
  48. yy represents the version number. If you are using Windows 3.x, you 
  49. must download and install the 16 bit CW16Byy.EXE file. Users of 
  50. Windows 95 and Windows NT can use either version.   
  51.  
  52. - The CLEARweb file that you download is a self-extracting file, you
  53. must run this file to extract the installation files. Then run 
  54. the extracted file SETUP.EXE which will install CLEARweb in its own 
  55. directory, and create icons for the program.
  56.  
  57. - After CLEARweb is installed on your computer, the Browser Setup 
  58. program will run, and install CLEARweb as a Netscape helper application. 
  59.  
  60. - You will need to run the Browser Setup program each time you install a 
  61. new version of Netscape. 
  62.  
  63. - Finally, you MUST restart Windows after installation to have 
  64. CLEARweb run correctly.

  91. 5. Known Limitations
  92. ======================================================================
  93. The following features are not present in the current beta, but will 
  94. be delivered before the release of CLEARweb version 1.0.

  96.     Edit and display information about a map's author
  97.     Printing and Printer Setup
  98.     Verify Address for all or selected items
  99.     Compatibility with other web browsers, including:
  100.         Microsoft Explorer, Mosaic, and WebSurfer

  103. 6. Registering CLEARweb
  104. ======================================================================
  105. No registration or payment is required to download and use the beta 
  106. test version of CLEARweb. To make sure beta testers stay current 
  107. with our development effort, each beta version expires completely within
  108. 45 days of its release. You will need to download and install new 
  109. beta test versions if you want to continue using the program. We make
  110. sure to release a new beta version well before the current one expires. 
  111.  
  112. When CLEARweb 1.0 is released, it will be available for free downloading
  113. and 30 day evaluation. This will be a complete copy of the product with
  114. no missing or limited features. You will need to register and pay for 
  115. the program within 30 days to continue using all of CLEARweb's features. 
  116. After 30 days of use, the program will switch to Viewer mode if it isn't 
  117. registered.

  119. In Viewer mode you can open and download any CLEARweb map file and 
  120. use it to navigate with your web browser. You can also import and export 
  121. Netscape Bookmark files. You will not be able to edit a map or outline, 
  122. and the ability to add or verify addresses will also be disabled. You 
  123. may use CLEARweb in Viewer mode for as long as you wish with no charge.

  125. You may freely redistribute the unregistered copy of CLEARweb along with 
  126. any map files you create. You must use the complete, unmodified copy of 
  127. CLEARweb in its original downloaded form. Each user who installs a copy of 
  128. CLEARweb will be responsible for either registering it, or using it in 
  129. Viewer mode.
